Veneers Q&A

What are veneers?

Veneers are very thin porcelain covers that Dr. Williams and Dr. Ruiz place directly over your minimally prepared teeth. Even though they’re delicate looking, veneers are exceptionally strong, highly durable, and look just like natural teeth.

When are veneers needed?

Veneers are a popular choice for men and women who have the following issues with one or more of their teeth:

  • Stains
  • Discoloration
  • Gaps
  • Cracks
  • Lack of uniformity
  • Slight Crookedness
  • Worn teeth

What should I expect when veneers are applied?

Before we puts your veneers in place, we prepare your teeth by very slightly filing front surface and roughening the surface, so the veneers adhere properly. This process is necessary to ensure your new veneers are spaced appropriately and allow sufficient space for flossing.

Between appointments, your new, custom-fitted veneers are created. While you wait, Dr. Ruiz and Dr. Williams give you a temporary cover to protect your newly prepared teeth. When you return for your second appointment, they paint on a state-of-the-art bonding solution that holds your new veneers in place. A special hand-held light hardens the bont to the veneers.

As the final step, we buff and polish your new veneers before we send you on your way with a radiant new smile.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers are considered a permanent cosmetic solution to problems with your natural teeth but require occasional replacement. With proper at-home care, diet, and continuous dental exams, they’re engineered to last more than 10 years.

Properly caring for your veneers keeps them in excellent condition and helps prolong the need for replacement. Things you can do to maintain the condition of your veneers include:

  • Daily brushing
  • Regular flossing or water flosser
  • Avoid chewing on ice or nails
  • Don’t bite down on hard candy
  • Wear a mouthguard to protect against grinding
  • Don’t use your teeth as tools
  • Maintain regular check-ups with Dr. Williams and Dr. Ruiz
  • Have your teeth professionally cleaned at least every six months
